If you are an athlete, then you probably know how important it is to have good speed, no matter which sport is your bread and butter. As a matter of fact, even the most competitive and the most competent coaches have come to dedicate a certain portion of their training time into ensuring that their athletes build up their speed. If you want to ensure that you will be doing your part when it comes to developing the speed that you need as an athlete, then it will do you well to educate yourself about the following youth speed training techniques. Go through the following points and make sure that you implement these little changes as much as you can, especially when your body is hyped up during your regular training.
One of the most important youth speed training regimen that you have to master involves building your strength, especially in the lower part of your body. After all, it will be impossible for you to learn how to run faster and reach your full speed potential if you do not build up the strength that you have on your lower muscles. There are different exercises and drills that you may use in order to focus on the lower part of your body. One of these exercises is known as Sled Sprints. This kind of exercise will require you to do your sprints with an added layer of resistance, sometime on an uphill trail. This exercise will, no doubt, be hard to go about in the beginning; but it will do wonders for your lower body strength and for your running speed.
Another technique that you will have to learn in order to improve your running speed involves a fast transition from a dormant state to a highly active one. This youth speed training is known as Push Up Sprints. You will have to lie down on the floor on your stomach, with your hands beneath your armpits. Give yourself the signal to move. You should be able to move from this dormant position into a full sprint within one second, in one seamless motion. This technique teaches the different parts of your body to make the transition between highly varying states— a skill that is important for a runner. Do three or four sets of varying distances before going on a break and doing another round.
The best thing that you can do in order to improve your youth speed training capabilities is to practice. Just run or sprint whenever you can. But believe it or not, however, you will not have to run far distances in order to improve your speed. One thing that you can do is to alternate your running speeds at very short intervals. Go on a full sprint for ten seconds and quickly decrease your speed into a brisk walk. Wait for around a minute before you run full force again. Doing this will improve your body’s capacity to alternate between varying speeds and improve your optimum running rate as well.
